Black Forest is a darker beer from a line of beers called Saranac. We liked this beer. It has a reddish dark brown color and a bold flavor to it. This type of beer would be in the same genre of beers as Bavarian Blacks such as Sprecher’s Bavarian Black Style and Heartland Brewery Bavarian Black Lager. It is a good solid beer, with the classic dark taste. There is a slight bite of bitterness upon swallow, but it is not unpleasant enough to detract from the drink. The drink is smooth with that slight tinge of sweetness that is almost surprising. However, the best part about it is the head which is very rich and very creamy. We can imagine this beer in a setting where you would sip on it while eating dinner. What’s also great about this beer is that its fairly unknown, so having some of this in the fridge means you know your beer. It is perfect for a cold winter day around the fireside. (The caramel definitely adds to that feeling of warmth!)
